Aki Okapi | Children’s Goods

 

I find having a passion project is invaluable, not only as a creative outlet, but as a learning tool and experimentation sandbox. When our home was hit by a catastrophic natural disaster, what better way to recover than through positivity and purpose? As we rebuilt, I also began building lines of children’s products under the moniker of “Aki Okapi.” This quickly began to strengthen my skills in product development, manufacturing, trademarking, marketing, branding and customer service by allowing me to approach these from an owner’s perspective. I navigated the pitfalls without the protective filter of a go-between, and had the freedom to take chances without putting any clients at risk. I came away with insights I doubt I could have learned as efficiently any other way.
